It's about having a choice. When your chemicals are forcing you to eat, you have
no choice about it. They are much more powerful than anyone's
will power or determination. These chemicals override your
options, just as you are forced to take a breath even if you
are trapped at a traffic light behnd a bus belching diesal
exhaust.
Where you can have a choice is by influencing the chemicals themselves, building
some up and making others wane. But until you know which chemicals
have your appetite switch stuck in the on position, any changes
will be a shot in the dark. That's why we start with research.
So that you'll have a profile of the chemicals that are controlling
your appetite switch.
Assignment 1--Take a moment to focus on what you want from this adventure. What
choices do you want? What are your goals? What has runaway
appetite prevented you from pursuing? When your appetite switch
is turned off, what will you do with your extra time and energy?

Your body is not the same as anyone else's. Of the 12 appetite chemicals that
can get out of balance, your body may have only a certain combination
that aren't working correctly. For this reason, the first thing
we do to turn off your appetite switch is to find out what brain
chemicals
are keeping it on.
Some chemicals are easy to change. Others are hard. We'll look at the easy chemicals
first, then when yo approach the more challenging brain chemicals,
you'll have the easy ones working for you. This is the number
one mistake most treatment programs make--going for the hardest
goals first--which makes eating changes much harder than they
have to be.
